Boy Scouts of America Troop 501 is based in Littlestown, Pennsylvania. Troop 501 is a boy led troop, and is part of the Battlefield District of the New Birth of Freedom Council.

We meet at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic Church in Littlestown at 7:15 pm every Tuesday of the month, except the 3rd one each month.

We try to go on a lot of camping trips each year (about once a month). We do numerous activities, and most of our members are very active. We do many service projects throughout the year, such as Scouting for Food and trash pickups along Rt. 97. We have 2 main fundraisers during the year, camp-cards (cards with coupons for local businesses) during the spring and a fall popcorn sale which help pay for our adventures.

        About Scouting

Scouting is a program for young men (and women) to learn important life skills. It teaches them how to become leaders, among many more things. It gives them opportunities they won't just be able to go out and find in everyday life, such as camping.

In Boy Scouts, you will learn a variety of things such as learn how to be a citizen in your community, in the US, and even in the world. Scouts learn first aid, enabling them to know how to respond in an emergency. They learn how to properly cook, stay fit, and manage their time and money wisely.

Scouting can also offer a personalized experience. To become an Eagle Scout (The highest rank in the scouting program) , you have to get some elective Merit badges as well as the eagle required badges to achieve eagle scout. These Merit badges are opportunities to learn more things not crucial to scouting or life, but interesting to the scouts. There are badges such as Art, Basketry, Engineering, Fishing, Kayaking, Public Speaking, Snow Sports, and Wilderness Survival which will let you learn about those topics. There are 100+ merit badges you can earn in the program.

Lastly, they can make friends through scouting with other boys their age. Our troop tries to provide a lot of opportunities each year to allow our scouts to enjoy the adventure of scouting.
